Tiong Hit out Minister of Domestic Trade for Copy Right Act amendment bill

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 12, 2011): Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing today hit out at the Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Dato Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaacob in the parliament for passing the Copy Right Act without first seeking the views of those concerned.

Tiong, who is also the chairman of BN Back Bencher Club, made this criticism when he was granted to speak in between the Budget debate speech of Arau MP Dato Ismail kasim.

The Bintulu MP said the passing of the bill had now caused grouses among the traders.

“These traders are now alleging the ministry officers were working with some traders to formulate the bill to their benefits, so that those selling the VCDs and CDs will have to abide by the prices fixed by them, or else, they will be penalised.”

Tiong at this juncture asked Ismail whether he would agree on the need to seek the opinions of those concerned in formulating the bill; the Arau MP answered in the affirmative.

Tiong added, “If a bill is passed without the consent of those concerned, the statute will be considered useless when it is criticised and boycotted by the traders,”

He said such an arrogant act was making life hard for the traders and one that was suppressing.

Ismail agreed with Tiong, saying before the readings, the views of those concerned should be sought.
