22/11/2011: Tiong Question over Mammoth Allocation RM 150 to Rural and Regional Development Ministry

Kuala Lumpur (Nov 22, 2011): Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who has been championing for rural development in Sarawak, continues to play a leading role in the parliament by putting forward two verbal questions concerning the safe rural drinking water project.

In the current parliamentary sitting, Tiong, who is also the chairman of BN Backbenchers’ Club, asked about the mammoth allocation amounting to RM150 million to Rural and Regional Development Ministry for this.

He asked:

(1) Whether the ministry had studied a plan to bring clean water to the rural community in Sarawak, and
(2) Whether they had come out with safety measures for rural folks who still relied on streams and underground water for drinking water.

Replying, the ministry said they had not come up with a plan yet.

It said they were working with the Public Works Department, Sarawak Mine and Geo-Science department to provide safe drinking water for them.

It said apart from drawing underground water for drinking, underground water pipes were also laid.

It said the rural folks also obtained drinking water from the rain and through flirtation.
