BINTULU: Bintulu might see the building of another Chinese primary school if the current process is done smoothly to transfer Kai Ming Primary School from Bintangor to Bintulu.

The transfer is currently under way, with the Federation of the Eight Clan Association in Bintulu going to the Education Ministry to obtain the transfer form from Deputy Education Minister Datuk Wee Ka Siong.

The form will be filled by the school for submission to the Education Ministry.

Federation chairman of the eight clans Association Datuk Pui Kiong Ong confirmed he had received the form from Wee when the delegation of eight leaders from his federation visited Wee at his ministerial office yesterday afternoon.

"We are here to help boost the transfer application after the school management board agreed to the transfer, as the school is facing acute student shortage."

Pui said they regarded the transfer an urgent matter for Bintulu.

"We have four Chinese primary schools in Bintulu, but, they are all overcrowded."

Among the four Chinese primary schools in Bintulu, he said there were 1,600 students in SJK Chung Hua, with another 1,200 in its subsidiary school, 1,200 in SJK Siong Boon and another 1,313 students in SJK Sibiew.

He said the student population in these schools continued to rise over the years.

"With such an urgent need, we have been working on the idea. I thank the management board of SJK Kai Ming in Bintangor in consenting the transfer."

Pui hoped as the application of the transfer was being processed, public members would show their support because the success in the transfer would depend on the efforts of the whole community.

"After the application is approved, we have to source for land, then seek donation to build the school.

"With the help from Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, the government and the public, we hope to shorten the time to set this school up in Bintulu after the successful transfer."

Pui was happy Datuk Seri Tiong was also helping them now in the transfer.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Wee, in meeting the delegates of Pui yesterday afternoon, explained the requirements needed in the transfer application.

He said he would see to the process of the transfer application, adding it was also his wish to see the development of Chinese education in Malaysia.
