| BINTULU:
Treasurer General of Sarawak Progressive Dmocratic Party (SPDP) Dato Seri
Tiong King Sing urged the group calling for an ‘immediate merger’ with
Party Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) should immediately stop to mislead the party
members and grassroots.
He was commented on the present party squabble whereby a group of eight led by the party’s senior vice-president Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, vice president Datuk Sylvester Entrie (former secretary general of SPDP) with six others threaten to immediately merge with PRS. In fact, Tiong revealed the issue of merging with PRS had been deliberated by the Supreme Council some times ago and a committee comprising of 5 persons led by party Deputy President Datuk Peter Nyarok was formed then. “Initially I was invited as a member in the committee but I declined the post, as I did not have enough spare time to work on the task,” he said. “I am truly surprised today to hear from these eight people who talked about the urgency for merger,” said Tiong when asked for comment on the issue highlighted in the newspapers yesterday. “Why it becomes so urgent only now? Questioned Tiong. He said in earlier stage, when the matter was being brought to Supreme Council, there were two members from the present eight people who had strongly objected to the notion of merger with PRS, Tiong declined to reveal the names of those two persons who had voiced strongly against the merging. Tiong also expressed his doubt over the truthfulness of the claim by the eights that they did it for the betterment of the rural folks. “Are they really telling the truth to the grass roots or for the sake of their personal agenda” questioned Tiong. Tiong who is also the Bintulu Member of Parliament expressed his disappointment when the group claimed the merging would strengthen the BN government; instead they themselves should realize first what they had contributed to their respective constituency “We should always bear in mind that SPDP is a multiracial party, whereby not only the well-being of Dayak community is our prime concerns but other races in the State as well” “I had been taking charge as the election director of SPDP for two terms including the last term; and during those times I had been visiting to these constituencies, and I knew how these people had performed as the wakil rakyat,” stressed Tiong. Tiong indicated his skepticism as when these people had their name to be nominated for election, they might face the risk of losing in the coming State General Election even though they claimed they were popular on the ground. Tiong said they should concentrate and work hard for the people to retain the seats while other rival parties was eying for the coming state election. They should review what they had not done or promises that had not yet been fulfilled for the people in their constituencies. Touching on their criticism on party president Datuk Seri William Mawan anak Ikom, Tiong said they should not point the gun at the president’s head at this moment over the issue that arose from the appointment of the secretary general post of the party. “To me, I do not agree with Mawan too as he is too kind with golden heart for not willing to reveal why Sylvester Entrie was not re-appointed as Secretary General as well as other; I will reveal all and to see who have personal agenda or own interests, and, an invisible hand behind all the bickering if one continue to mislead our party consolidation and unity” continued Tiong. “If the group persist to mislead the party, members and Rakyat, I strongly feel that our honour President should not keep in silence anymore whereby time to spill the beans shall come” Tiong also quoted Entrie statement in earlier media publicity, claiming that he had no power to serve as Vice President, comparing to party key position as Secretary General. “Why he need the power for? I am the former Youth Chief of the party, but I still continue to serve the people without hold the post of Youth chief? “By right at this moment, those state assemblymen who are the weak in their constituencies, should not take thing granted but need to work hard in the constituency; if you win everything in the party but lost in your election, you are gone as well” said Tong. He hoped these eight people should stop to exaggerate their discontentment over the media but working hard for the coming election now. Meanwhile Tiong also advised the media should not simply stir up the issue on SPDP . He cited particularly on a Peninsula based newspaper which described him (Tiong) as a stumbling block of merging. “There is not stumbling block, only at that time the issue on merger had been cooled down. We had been informed that PRS was not interested to proceed further,” he explained. Tiong clarified there was nothing regarding the discontentment allegedly voiced by PRS about the leadership line-up, as accused by these eight people. Tiong reiterated the delegates and members of the party had the final say pertaining to the terms and conditions or references on the merger. He said Mawan himself know clearly he had no absolute power to decide on his own the decision of merger with PRS but through the TGM or EGM and decided by the majority of the members. ON the related issue, Tiong also urged a member of the component party of Barisan Nasional, not to be greedy to remotely manipulate the issue or treating SDPD as one of their puppet. “Don’t force me to reveal who is behind and what is really happening on the Status Quo issue (referring to non-contest in top posts of the party),” he said. He said for the sake of power sharing, everyone must respect each other and respect the one Malaysia concept mooted by by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak . For the party legal registration address, Tiong urged members of press should question Entrie whereby members of Supreme Council had been informed in former meeting by the former Secretary General (Entrie) that letter had been submitted to Registrar of Societies Malaysia. “If
they claims present headquarter was not legal, then who is telling lie
to supreme council? They had even attended meetings for a few times in
the present party headquarter”
