29/09/2005: Tiong: Good Character of Students Contribute to Excellence Echelon Leaders

BINTULU -Students who are poised to become  second echelon leaders of the  country are urged to develop and improve themselves in terms of their academic excellence  and good character.

Member of Parliament for P216 Bintulu Dato Seri Tiong King Sing described our country leaders and Ministers becoming what they were today because they possessed qualities and characteristic of leaders.

He pointed out the imperative task of students was to excel in their studies while schooling.

They should never allow themselves to get involve in unhealthy activities that would turn them astray.

"In fact all students are supposedly to be hard-working but the family upbringing and environment have some bearings on them as some of them eventually becoming lazy,"

Tiong's text of speech was read out by his Speical Assistant Encik Teo Hock Peng at the presentation of excellence awards to outstanding students at SMK Kidurong yesterday.
  
Meanwhile, principal Puan Rohani Haji Daud said the school had come up with various strategies to help improviing the performance of students sitting for the PMR, SPM and STPM examinations.

She was glad the teachers had volunteered to give extra lessons for the students besides conducting monthly tests and  assess their performance.

Earlier chairman of Parent-Teacher Association Abang Azahari bin Abang Zen exhorted the students to strive for excellence in every endeavour they undertook.

Being the General manager for HUman Resource and Corporate Affairs of Shell Gas and Power,  Azahari described securing a job in oil and gas industries was competitive as one had to be highly qualified in specialised disciplines.

He pointed out only candidates with good academic qualificiation and communication skills, team players and emotionally balanced stood a chance to be recruited.

He also reminded parents to start saving for the sake of their children education and future.

Students who excelled in academic performance and co-curriculum activities were each given a certificate of excellent award.
