| BINTULU : Leaders of any political leaders
must make some introspections pertaining to any problems may arise upon
the proposed merger of the two political parties like the Party Rakyak
Sarawak (PRS) or Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP).
SPDP Treasurer-General Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said he was adopting an open mind attitude on the recent report in local newspapers regarding the merger of the PRS and SPDP. "As far as I am concerned, our party president Datuk William Mawan anak Ikom has yet to notifying us about the said proposal," he said. Commenting, Tiong said there is no point of merger if in the end the leaders from the both political parties embroiled in disputes over who should be the next president or holding certain key position in the newly merged line-up. "If we can foresee such incident to recur, then what is the point of merger," he remarked inferring to the de-registration of the then Sarawak National Party(SNAP) and Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak(PBDS). In addition, all the seats in the line-up must undergo a democratic process of nomination and voting by members under the new entity. He said everybody must make sure that the ultimate aim of the merger should bring about the height of services render to the people in general. "That is the true essence of leadership as we are elected by the people to serve them," said Tiong, who is also the Member of Parliament for P216 Bintulu. Tiong also pointed out merger of two political parties was not something new in Malaysia as MCA and Gerakan had been in the process of discussion pertaining to issue of merger. |
