| BINTULU: The oppositions have been
urged to stop ridiculing the plans by Bintulu Development Authority (BDA)
to improve the road traffic system in the town centre.
Bintulu Member of Parliament, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing was not impressed by the recent remarks from the opposition that the improvement works were merely a waste of public money while affecting the asthetic condition of the town. "They are just trying to mislead the people to narrow their thoughts on what is happening now when what BDA tries to do was to prepare for the growing volume of traffic in the future," he told reporters here on Friday. It was learnt that the opposition had questioned the reason for BDA to demolish the road dividers at the town centre and yet replacing them again with almost similar type of dividers which they see only reflected the BDA poor town planning and wasting the public fund. They were also not satisfied with the slow
pace of works to complete the project and the conditions of the sites were
seen as eyesores and not contributing towards improving the environment
of the town centre.
While expressing his satisfaction with the progress of the projects, he admitted that BDA could not work on their own pace since their tasks also had to be determined by the ability of the other government agencies to expedite their works. In the case of the town centre's new road system, BDA's schedule was a bit hindered with the presence of underground cables and pipes being laid down by other agencies and it would take some time to relocate these facilities. Hoping that the other agencies would work closely to expedite the process, Tiong certain inconveniences would occur during the works and unavoidable but he believed the agencies would always tried to minimise the impacts. "It is just not fair for the opposition to accuse the authority of being lacklustre in their works and tried to steer the public from the real issue. It would be best that they (the oppositions) could come up with more constructive ideas rather than picking on petty issues," he added. |
