14/01/2004: SPDP Kidurong Embarks On a Road Safety Campaign

BINTULU: Members of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Kidurong led by their chairman Thomas Ng embarked on a road safety campaign here on Wednesday in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

The campaign, involving the Police and Road Transport Department was also in support of the calls by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and the Bintulu Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing to drive safely as a move to reduce accidents during the celebration.

"Our messages on safety in this campaign would also be carried out on banners that we had put up strategically at the Bintulu-Airport Road and Bintulu-Miri Road," he told reporters at the launch of the campaign near the BBC commercial centre, Km 8, Bintulu-Airport Road.

Also present at the launch were Bintulu Deputy Police Chief, DSP Patrick Jimmy, SPDP secretary Jacky Chan and several officers from the Police Department and RTD.

Ng also advised motorists planning for a long road journey this festive season to make thorough check of their vehicles and to observe all the road regulations.

Road travellers were also told not to rush in reaching their respective destinations and to be patient particularly during the pre-festive period where the volume of traffic were expected to increase.

They also could not expect a normal pace to drive their vehicles in view of the works to upgrade the road involving the stretch of Bintulu-Airport Road and Bintulu-Miri Road.

"We hope the road users would observe the traffic signs that had been put up but most importantly, they should bear in mind of their loved ones who would never wanted anything bad to happen during this time around," he added.
