| BINTULU: Sarawak National Party (SNAP) candidate Dr Lau Hieng Kii is
calling for calm among its supporters and refrain from taking unnecessary
actions that could affect the peace during the current campaign period.
Speaking to reporters here, he believed that none of the candidates in the election here would want any untoward incident from happening and called for all parties to respect each other during the period. "Even if the supporters are not happy with any of the candidates, they should not do anything that is not acceptable," he added. He said these when commenting on an incident on Tuesday evening when a group of motorists in a convoy of about 20 vehicles bearing posters of SNAP blaring their car horns continuously upon passing the venue where Democratic Action Party (DAP) was conducting a public talk at Tanjung Batu Road here. According to Lau, he was not aware of such incident since he was in Kuching when it occurred and only returned here Wednesday morning. Lau, 47, who is also the SNAP Kidurong chairman is contesting against Barisan Nasional's Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing and DAP state deputy chairman Chiew Chin Sing in a three-cornered fight for the Bintulu Parliamentary seat. On another issue, Lau said that he is planning to take legal action against the Jepak state assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip for a remark that the latter had made to the media on his bankruptcy state. "The damage had been done and I will sue him. My business is already damaged by him (Talib)," he added. Stressing that he will not accept any apology from Talib as he believed that the latter was "very aware" of his remarks when he uttered them. "Before he questioned me in such, I would also like him to declare his own financial position, his property and how much that he had achieved to help the people in his tenure as a state assemblyman. It doesn't matter whether I will win or lose in the election but definitely
I will sue him," added Lau.
