| BINTULU: A longhouse headman from Sebungan in Sebauh sub-district here
has urged Sarawak National Party (SNAP) to stop cheating rural people here
by claiming they were still with Barisan Nasional.
TR Amit Ak Usee who represented some 100 voters from the longhouse said more and more people in the rural areas here are now aware about the scam, plotted by their Bintulu candidate Dr Lau Hieng Kii and election coordinator Ting Ling Kiaw, to fish for votes in this election. "Eventhough we are from the rural side, I hope SNAP would stop pretending to say that they are still in BN as we are all aware now that the true Barisan Nasional candidate is Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing," he told a press conference on Tuesday. Together with four members of Rh Amit's Village Security and Development Committee who held the press conference had vowed to spread the message of SNAP's clandestine strategy to convince the rural people. He said that the people in the rural here, particularly in the Sebungan area, for the last five years had been looking forward to an uninterrupted development planned by the Barisan Nasional government. He hoped that other longhouse residents would not fall into the trap of SNAP whom had already distributing posters appealing for the people to choose the party as the bridge to the Barisan Nasional. Urging the for the rural residents to listen to the advices of their community leaders to give their full support and votes for Tiong as the real BN candidate, Amit said the role played by SNAP was just similar to what other oppositions in the election were doing. "Worst still they claimed that if SNAP win in this election, they will be admitted back into the Barisan (Nasional)," he added. Since being elected in 1999, Amit said Tiong had been the only Member of Parliament who have visited their longhouse almost every year. "This was the first time Ting (Ling Kiaw) visited us at our longhouse
only recently with his new friend (referring to Dr Lau). Previously was
just at his office" he said when told by reporters that Ting had once becoming
a people-elected representative for four terms.
