BINTULU: Another five doctors will be deployed to the divisional hospital here in order to boost the number of medical officers there to 21 within the next few months.

Barisan Nasional's incumbent for Bintulu, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing said the arrival of the five foreign doctors had been confirmed by Health Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Suleiman Mohamad last Tuesday.

"Apart from that, the Ministry had already deployed five new specialist doctors in the fields of orthopedic, ear, nose and throat (ENT), anesthetic and obstetric and gynecology," he told reporters after holding a dialogue session with the hopital’s medical officers and its members of the Visitors’ Board.

Tiong initiated the dialogue session to find out the cause for public complaints on the delays in doctors rendering services to the public at the hospital.

During the dialogue session, he heard that the hospital had been operating with staff-constraint that caused the services that they intend to render to be unable to be delivered in time.

Understanding the situation faced by the hospital, Tiong hoped that the arrival of additional medical officers would help to reduce the workloads faced at the hospital.

At the same time, he expressed his gratitude to the hospital staff for giving the best to serve under the constraint situation while appealing for the public understanding and patient while the hospital authority worked to improve their services.

“We expect that with the arrival of the additional doctors, the service at the hospital could improve tremendously,” he said, beside calling on the public members to approach any member of the hospital’s visitors board should they encounter any problem at the hospital.

Ever since being elected as the Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Tiong had been committed towards ensuring the improvement in the services rendered by the hospital, which was officiated in 2001 by the then Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Tiong had also made a personal contribution by purchasing a CTScan machine and a Labrotroscope set last year  in his efforts to better-equipped the hospital.
