BINTULU: The Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) is considering extending the grace period for settling overparking coupons from the present three days to seven days before imposing the RM10 surcharge for late payment.

Bintulu’s Barisan Nasional incumbent, Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing enthused that BDA had been proactive to tackle the problems with the overparking coupon to provide convenient for motorists to settle their dues.

“In my meeting with Haji Mohidin Ishak (the BDA General Manager) recently, BDA had shown their concern over the difficulty faced by motorists to settle the overparking coupon within the present three days, which is a little bit too short,” he told reporters here.

Should the BDA agreed to extend the present grace period to the number of days requested, Tiong hoped that the members of the public would fully utilised the opportunity given to avoid paying the surcharges.

He also disclosed that a request from those offered with housing lots under the Kampung Jepak village extension scheme to make their repayment instalment directly to BDA is also being considered.

The request was made as most of those offered with the lots were not having monthly fixed income to qualify them to apply for bank loans to pay for the price of each lot, which was over RM10,000.

On the issue of incomplete drainage system at Kampung Sinong here, Tiong said the task which had so far covered only one side of the road there could not be accomplished since the land owners refused to give way for the project to proceed.

He hoped the landowners would take a long thought before preventing the project as the intention to create the drainagae system was for the benefit of all the people at the village.

Tiong also revealed that BDA is in a planning stage to carry out tar-sealing works on the road around residential areas in Tanjung Batu which is yet to be sealed.

The BDA, he said, is also currently coordinating with several government agencies to pave the way for the construction of a covered wharf near the fishing market here.
