11/01/2004: Locall-made Pornographic Found in Bintulu

BINTULU: The police has been urged to investigate allegations of locally-made pornographic video compact discs (VCDs) distributed illegally here while hotel owners were urged to check such immoral activities are not carried out in their premises.

In making the call, Bintulu Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the allegations came to his knowledge recently and was concerned that the image of the people and place here would be tarnished if its true.

"I urge the police to probe these allegations and the hotel proprietors should check that their guests are not involved in theses purported act," he said when speaking at the Lin Clan Association Chinese New Year Dinner here last Saturday.

It is learnt that the lewd VCD contained video of a young couple, believed to be locals, at a budget inn which was taken either with or without the knowledge of the couple.

Tiong felt that it was also the duty of the hotel owners to make sure that none of their guests were involved in promoting such activities in their premises.

With the recording equipment becoming cheaper and easier to obtain nowadays, he was concerned that such equipment would be used with ill-intentions here.

At the same time, he also hoped that young couples here should exercise self-discipline and refraining from being in a risk of being caught in an embarassing situation and tarnishing their family image.

The Member of Parliament also urged the authority concerned to check on complaints from parents here of several teachers at certain schools here who came late to work and affecting their children's studies.

He was perplexed on knowing about the complaints when he personally felt that teachers were supposed to be dedicated towards executing their responsibilities efficiently.

"If this complaints are true, I hope that the authority concerned would take deterrent measures to ensure that none of the teachers here are behaving in a way that could jeopardize our education system," he added.
