12/02/2004: Tiong urges Chiew to think of Better Issues

BINTULU: Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing has urged Kidurong state assemblyman Chiew Chin Sing to think of better issues before inviting him to participate in an open debate.

In a statement released on Thursday, he would not accept the invitation since the issues proposed by Chiew to be debated were petty of nature and merely to make the event as a political image promotion.

Describing Chiew's open challenge as a "pleasant surprise," Tiong said that he did not want the DAP Sarawak deputy chairman to wait long eventhough Chiew had given him 72 hours to reply.

"I am pleasantly surprise by YB Chiew's offer and to avoid him from waiting to long and in the spirit of Barisan Nasional, I am replying within 24 hours.

I am officially rejecting YB Chiew's proposals this time but if there is better issues next time, I hope he would extend an invitation that I might consider," he added.

Chiew's issues were described as too simple by the MP, who also felt that being a seasoned politician, Chiew should be aware that the deeds of any politician is not measured by how much he said about himself or what he had done.

"Only history and the people will tell how much can we as politcians can do or had done," he added.

The principles of Barisan Nasional had always stressed that all its elected-representatives should deliver to their best abilities and to raise the livelihood the people who had elected the government.

"We are not like the oppositions who would only pointed to the problems and used the media to highlight the problems but not to solve them. Can a problem be solved through such an approach?" Tiong asked.

The Member of Parliament also urged Chiew to stop harping on the issue of TV3 station project here as the matter is currently under the judicial authority.

"I believe that YB Chiew who are reading law is well-aware that any matter that currently undergoing court proceedings could not be discussed openly as this could amount to intereference of the proceedings," he added.
