08/09/2003:Village Chiefs told to Identify Beneficial Project

BINTULU: Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing has reminded his constituents, particularly longhouse residents, not to make petty demands or request for unnecessary financial assistance.

He said that due to limited allocation from the Federal government for Minor Rural Projects (MRPs) for each paarliamentary constituency, only long term and beneficial projects would be given top priority.

He added that it was pointless for the residents to blame the government and create a political issue when their proposed project was rejected.

He said the people must understand and respect the financial restriction of their elected representatives or MPs.

Speaking at a meet-the-people session at Tatau sub-district recently, Tiong urged the tuai rumah or village chiefs to request only beneficial projects.

He added that there were over 600 longhouse under Bintulu constituency, and therefore it was impossible to grant project to each of these longhouses if those requested were not beneficial.

To help longhouse Chiefs to identify beneficial projects, Tiong lurged them to sit down and toak with their people more often, understand their problems and needs.
