| Kuching: Sarawak Progressive Democratic
Party (SPDP) has already decided on the top four posts before the inaugural
triennial general assembly (TGA) on Feb 6-7.
No contests were expected for the top lposts, its protem president Datuk William Mawan Ikom said yesterday. He said the party's supreme council had more or less agreed that he would be the president, Assistant Torism Minister Pedter Nyarok, the deputy and Tasik Biru State Assemblyman Peter Nansian and Baram MP Jacob Dungau Sagan, senior vice-presidents. The secretary-general would be Infrastructure Development and Communications Assistant Minister Dr. Judson Tagal while the MP for Bintulu Dato Seri tiong King Sing would be the treasurer and Marudi State Assemblyman Sylvester Entrie Muran the Youth Chief. "That is the arrangement we have agreed on, but if there is a tussle for top posts as speculated in the newspapers, then I might request the current (protem) deputy president Datuk Peter Tinggom to stay on for a while, " he told reporters at the Kuching International Airport after returning from Kuala Lumpur. Mawan who is also the Minister for Environment and Public Health said the majority of the protem office bearers would be expected to retain their posts after the TGA. It had been agreed on the basis of the party's governing principle of consensus and consultation, he said. This has put to rest speculations in the last two weeks that the deputy president's post is up for grabs. "Nyarok's appointment is based on his seniority in view of his position and his other qualifications," Mawan said. Entrie by virtue of him being Youth Chief and Deputy Minister for National Unity and Community Development Dr. Tiki Lafe who is also Mas Gading MP, will assume two of the five vice president posts. Mawan also had been filled via consensus from party members while the rest of the posts would be up for grabs. He said the posts of political secretary would be decided after he had met with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. |
