08/01/2003: National BN Admits SPDP

Miri: The Barisan Nasional Supreme Council yesterday endorsed the admission of Sarawak's newest political party, Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) into the coalition's fold.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said that the BN supreme council meeting yesterday unanimously accepted the application of SPDP to join the BN.

They would attend the next BN supreme council meeting, said Dr. Mahathir who is also national BN Chairman.  With the endorsement, the party is set to rolling the room of the defunct Sarawak National Party (SNAP) which was deregistered by the Registrar of Societies last November.

SPDP Secretary General Dr. Judson Sagai Tagal in an interview from Kuala Lumpur said the new office bearers led  by the president Datuk William Mawan Ikom were in KL for this ground-breaking confirmation and announcement of the supreme council which met yesterday.

Chaired by the Mahathir, who is also president of UMNO, the meeting unanimously approved the acceptance of SPDP which takes over SNAP following its demise after 41 years in the political scene of Malaysia.  Dr. Judson thanked the PM, Deputy PM, CHief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and other national and state leaders and friends for SPDP's admission into the BN fold yesterday.
