| BINTULU: With five days to go, Malaysians are eagerly waiting
to celebrate the country's 46th anniversary of independence (Sarawak 40th)
on 30 August.
For the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemelang 2003 convoy who were in Bintulu yesterday, after seven days on the road since they started in Kuching on August 17, fatigue was not even registered in any one of them. In fact, the spirit of members led by Mat Daud Harun and Shaharul Nizam Mohd Tahir soared each day. The con't wait to continue with their journey. The convoy, organised by the state Information Dept in 15 4WDs is headed for Niah toady. It is expected that Bintulu Resident Ubaidillah Hj Abdul Latif would flag them off at 8 today. In another development, more that 7,000 converged at the Esplanade Sunday evening to see AisaAir-sponsored Pentas Merdeka one of events lined up to welcome the convoy. Among artistes performing at the show were a rock band XPDC, Pentarama and D'Jaksa. And among those who came to watch the show were Bintulu MP Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing and the convoy leader Mat Daud. After Niah, the convoy will head for Miri on August 27, before going to Limbang and Lawas on 28 and 29 August respectively. After Limbang they will return to Miri on August 30 in time for the Merdeka Countdown on midnight of 30 August. |
