BINTULU - Residents of a longhouse along Sungai Sebemban near here can have a good night sleep now that an aggressive crocodile has been killed by personnel from the Forest Department last Monday night.

The beast had been causing them fear and anxiety for the past four years. Now they can wash and swim in the river with peace of mind.

An operation to shoot the beast was led by Assistant Veterinary Officer from the Forest Dept, Ganya anak Liap, with assistance from National Park and Wild Life Section personnel including officers from Kuching; Stephen Antang and Wan Mazlan Wan Median.

Permission was granted to kill the crocodile as it had grown bigger and getting aggressive over the years.

The department had on several occasions attempted to catch the crocodile alive but that proved to be futile, said Ganya.

They managed to trace the whereabouts of the three-metre crocodile weighing about 85 kg about 5pm Monday and shot it to death.
