BINTULU - The Sarawak Progressive and Democrative Party's (SPDP) service centre here yesterday brought relief to longhouse folks when party members supplied them with gallons of much needed water yesterday. The folks of longhouses between Mile 28 and Mile 38 have been facing water shortage due to the prolonged dry spell. The service centre of Member of Parliament for Bintulu Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing, upon being notified by the Welfare Department regarding the plight of the longhouse folks, despatched several water tankers to three longhouses yesterday afternoon. Chairman of SPDP Kidurong branch, Thomas Wong revealed that the water recipients were the residents of Rumah kujah, Rumah Nink and Rumah Bugat. The longhouse folks there have depending on rainwater for their daily washing, cooking and bathing and it has not been raining for more than a week, forcing them to seek help from the Welfare Department. Meanwhile, the residents of the three longhouses expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Tiong and the staff of Welfare Department.
