The Member of Parliament of Bintulu...Dato' Seri Tiong BINTULU - The Neighbourhood Committee (RT) of Kidurong Low-Cost Housing Estate has been urged to play a more active role and work closely with police to help curb crimes in the area. Member of Parliament for Bintulu Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing said petty thefts, motor vehicle thefts and house-breakings could be reduced or prevented if the residents, especially through the RT, had played a complementary role to help police. He said that police were facing manpower shortage and the residents should not expect police to solve every case without they themselves (residents) getting involved. He proposed that members of Kidurong RT organise themselves to patrol the housing estate each night. Tiong, who was officiating at the closing of the oratory contest jointly organised by the Information Department, Resident's Office and Kidurong RT, believed that their presence would help to deter would be criminals from committing crimes in the area. He later announced a RM10,000 donation for the purchase of vests, T-shirts and refreshment for RT members to kick start the patrolling activity. Tiong also urged civil servants here to render whatsoever assistance possible to people who came to their office for help. He said they should be patient and courteous when explaining things to people, many of whom were illiterate from rural areas. He added that there was no point to shout at people as at the end of the day, he would be receiving public complaints on poor civil services. Poor services, he said, would tarnish the good image of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government. Tiong later gave away the prizes to the winners of the oratory contest. Deputy Bintulu Resident Indit Bangai, Divisioinal information Officer Hassan Busu, RT Kidurong chairman Mohktar Haji Ismail were also present at the function. |
