BINTULU: Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has chided certain longhouse chiefs in his constituency who failed to manage government fund allocated for their people wisely.

"They are not suitable to hold the positions," he said during his round of visits to 23 longhouses in the Kidurong state constituency here yesterday.

These longhouse heads even blamed him for not responding to their requests after they had spent all the government fund allocated, he added.

"I am saddened that the longhouse heads even instigated people under their charges to go against me after they failed to plan their budget and started accusing me of not fulfilling my promises," the MP said.

He cited the case of a longhouse along Bintulu-Miri Road here where the tuai rumah requested ceiling fans and building materials from him and he eventually approved a grant of RM6,000.

Instead of budgeting for both items, the tuai rumah only spent the fund on building materials and once the fund was exhausted, he had been telling his people that the government failed to meet their request for the ceiling fans.

Viewing the attitude of the tuai rumah as unbecoming, Tiong said that he would not hesitate to recommend to the government for the termination of the former's appointment as head of the longhouse.

In this connection, he also advised longhouse residents to report to the Resident's Office if their tuai rumah were not able to perform their duty so that capable ones from among them could take over.

He also urged the Village Committee for Security and Development (JKKKs) of the longhouses that he visited to keep proper account of the monetary assistances that had been given by the government.
