Date: Press Release

BINTULU: The recent success by the police here to arrest a foreigner for
suspicion of illegal possession of firearms has reflected the crucial role
of public cooperation in curbing crime.

In making this remark, Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato' Seri Tiong King
Sing also hoped the police would make thorough investigation to determine
whether the suspect had been involved in any other crime activities.

"Eventhough the suspect had been arrested, I hope the police will be able to
find out the motive for the suspect to keep the firearms as well as to track
down other people who had been involved in it," he added.

Through comprehensive investigation, he believed that the police will
continue to enhance their reputations as the protectors for peace while
detering any attempt to commit crime here.

The continuation of good relationship and cooperation between the public and
the police would lead towards making Bintulu a peaceful place and facilitate
its people to concentrate on uplifting their livelihood.

In this regards, he urged the public members to render as much cooperation
as possible to the police particularly in providing information of alleged
crime that could have taken place.

Apart from this case, Tiong added that a number of members of the public had
expressed their concern with the growing number of illegal foreigners here
and hoped all the relevant government departments to keep tab of the
situation.

Beside entering the state illegally, he was made to know that the illegal
foreigners would come out during the night to seek for entertainment and
there had been instances of their involvement in crime activities that
worries the local people.

He also warned plantation estates or manufaturing plants to challenge the
credibility of the government departments concerned by employing illegal
immigrants or foreign workers without work permits.
