KUCHING - Datuk Amar James Wong is confident the Sarawak National Party will not be deregistered.

"We have already informed the Registrar of Societies that we sent in our reply in response to the showcause letter on September 22. We have met the ROS' condition of replying before October 13 and I am confident our explanation will be accepted to save the party from de-registration," he told reporters at Kuching International Airport on his return from Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Wong also said he had fulfilled Deputy Prime Minister Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's suggestion to lift the suspension of Dato Sri Peter Tinggom and Dr Judson Tagal and that letters to the effect had been despatched to both of them yesterday.

Wong had asked to meet Abdullah and managed to see the Deputy Prime Minister at his office in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

"He is very happy and satisfied with my explanation. So I am very, very confident the party will not be de-registered," he said.

Wong said he was inviting all party members (including the other faction) to attend the Triennial General Assembly (TGA) scheduled in February next year.

"Join the TGA and contest any post you want. The door is always open for everybody to come back and stand for election or contest in any position they wish," he added.Wong reiterated he would "not seek re-election unless forced to" but declined to elaborate.

"I bear no malice as I am thinking of the well-being of the Barisan Nasional, the State and the nation. This transcends any personal feelings and Dato' Seri Abdullah understands. We have our constitution which is important. There are safeguards in it to protect Sarawak in terms of land, civil service and immigration. There are rules and regulations to follow and to provide guidance in the way we do things," Wong said.

He disclosed he would be leading a delegation to give moral support to the BN during nomination for the Oct 12 parliamentary by-election in Gaya, Sabah.
