The Member of Parliament, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing JP BINTULU-- The Member of Parliament, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing is urging the state Road Transport Department to carry out internal investigation over the possible leak of information regarding their planned enforcement operations at trunk roads. He noted that a number of ocassions where the RTD failed to book overladen commercial vehicles here as apparently the drivers had knew about their enforcement plans like spot checks and road blocks before hand and ceasing their operations temporarily. "When the spot checks and road blocks were over, these vehicles could be seen coming out with their overload cargo and while causing damages to the road surface, they drive as if the trunk road was a runway and endangering other road users," he told reporters here on Friday. He was concerned over the allegations that he heard from members of the public here that certain staff of RTD were "rewarded" by the companies owning such vehicles for giving information about their enforcement operations intended to be carried out. Such allegation, according to Tiong should be investigated by RTD and should not be simply brushed aside as evidence of leak was apparent and the department need to take drastic action against the possible culprits in order to restore their reputations. He was further saddened with one road accident that occured at Jalan Bintulu-Miri trunk road on Friday where a saloon car was reduced to a wreckage after being hit by a trailer which attempted to avoid another trailer while overtaking near the Sungai Sibiu 1 bridge. While relieved that no serious injuries was inflicted on the saloon car driver, Tiong was angered by the inconsiderate attitude of the trailer truck drivers, whom in his description was acting as if they were the "giants of the road." "This is the result of failed enforcement of the law on the road and if such a situation continues, these giants of the road will continue to endanger other road users, especially smaller vehicles, without giving any regards of other people's lives," he added. |
