Stressing this, Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing believed that the RELA movement can play a big role in the community in safeguarding national security, peace and order and giving a helping hand to the public when the need arises. He said when occasions arise when their assistance is required, RELA members should be ever ready to be there, and be sincere in their desire to serve. "Do not join RELA because you think by doing it, it makes it easier for you to apply to get a shotgun. And you don't use it to help people but to go shooting game," he advised. He said in RELA, members are given all kinds of training to help them to better serve the society, and such training should be put to good use instead of going to waste, if a person has not the right reason for joining the movement. He was speaking at the closing of a one-day training on basic fire-fighting skills at the Bintulu Bomba premises here last Sunday. Lauding the training exercise, Tiong said it is apt that RELA has a voluntary BOMBA team to help the firemen to combat fire cases especially when several occurs at once. Such added skills and role of the RELA members to save lives and properties will also elevate the status of RELA in public eye, he said. Officer-in-charge of RELA Bintulu District Yusop Sanai in his speech said the training exercise is to upgrade the skills and capabilities of the RELA members.
