BINTULU: Every home is encouraged to have at least one fire extinguisher which will come in useful should a fire occur.

Giving this advice yesterday, officer-in-charge of the fire station here, Ismuni Tepo said he urged every home to get at least one fire extinguisher just as the Education Department urged every family to own a computer.

Speaking at the closing of a one-day RELA training on basic fire-fighting skills last Sunday, he said with the fire extinguisher, the public can better help themselves in the event a fire occurs prior to the arrival of the firemen.

He added that the biggest fire-engine in Bintulu acquired last year, only have the capacity to hold 400 gallons of water.

"And that water will be used up in only two minutes," he said.

Bintulu Bomba has three fire engines, the other two are smaller ones which can each hold 200 gallons of water.

Ismuni further urged the people to practise good housekeeping, including refraining from keeping their children locked by themselves at home.

Bintulu MP, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing officiated at the closing ceremony of the training exercise.
