Tiong (right) urges members of SNAP not to be confused or feared by censured Sec-Gen Justine Jinggut BINTULU-All SNAP members have been told not to fear the warning made by the censured secretary-general of the party against attending the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) scheduled for 11 August this year. Bintulu Member of Parliament, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing said a notice advertised by Datuk Justine Jinggut on Wednesday was merely another attempt to confuse and threaten the SNAP members from exercising their rights to decide the destiny of the party. "I call all members of SNAP to ignore the notice (by Jinggut) and proceed with your wishes to see our party regain the strength by coming in full force in this coming EGM," he said in a statement released here Tuesday. Tiong said that the notice deserved to be ignored by the party members as Jinggut could no longer carry on to use the designation of the SNAP's secretary-general since he had been censured unanimously by the party members in the last National Council meeting. He added that the EGM to be held was in accordance to the constitution of the party that had provided for the members to convene for such ocassion within six weeks after the National Council meeting. Tiong further stressed that there was no provision at all in the constitution that requires any EGM must be called solely by the party's headquarter and advised the censured secretary-general not to ridicule the members' knowledge of the party's constitution. He believed that Jinggut should be aware that the members had learnt through the crises of the misleadership in the party as well as strengthening their knowledge about their rights of being a member of the party. The Member of Parliament also expressed his disbelief with the decision made by the so-called central executive committee (CEC) of the party to suspend the acting secretary-general Dr.Judson Tagal before issuing a show-cause letter for the decision not to be taken against the latter. "This would be something for the censured secretary-general to clarify whether is there any provision in the constitution for a member to be suspension first and a show cause letter to be issued later," he added. Taking into account Justine's experience of being a member and a secretary-general, Tiong said the former should be familiar with the spirit that the party belong to all the members and not being dictated by a few leaders. "He (Jinggut) should know very well of the importance to listen to the grassroot members. SNAP belong to more than 140,000 members and not a few of the leaders," he added. |
