Tuai Rumah Kujah ak Ngumbang said so far this year, they had yet to request for water supply to cope with the current dry season, contrarily with the claims allegedly made by him in the newsreport that they had been supplied with polluted water. "I would not know how the claims come about but I believed that the newsreport was definitely had been misdirected by (Encik) Chiew Chiu Sing (Kidurong state assemblyman and DAP national vice-chairman," he added. When met at his longhouse about 45 kilometres from here late Monday, Kujah revealed that Chiew along with several DAP members went to the longhouse and asked him about the water supply there. Providing the facts, he told his visitors that they had been depending on rain water and water pond for their supply all the while pending the piped-water supply which the Government had approved to be implemented in their areas. "When he asked me whether we had asked for water supply lately, I just replied 'no' as the situation had yet to warrant us to do so. I also told him that during the drought last year, we did ask for supply but the water delivered to us that was a little bit smeared with oil. I never told him it happened recently but last year," Kujah insisted. Expressing his regret that he had been drawn into being seen as making wild allegations in the newspaper, Kujah said that he had no intention of painting bad image of the government in their effort to upgrade the living standard of the rural people. Another headman, Tuai Rumah Kadir ak Kudor said that the visiting DAP members had taken the opportunity of his absence at his longhouse to lure his people into believing that Chiew could supply water for them. One of the residents, Puan Jelengan ak Biju said Chiew had even promised her that apart from water supply, he would also bring in electericity to the longhouse but did not mention when. Meanwhile, a team from the Bintulu Member of Parliament's People Service Centre led by special assistant, Encik Teo Ho Ping went to visit the two longhouses to determine the truth about the newsreport. While concluding that the newsreport to be baseless, Teo had advised the longhouse people to voice their problems through a proper channel and not the opposition who had no proper means and ability to solve their problems. |
