Bintulu, Monday: A total of RM410,000 has been raised so far through various charitable activities or public donations to  the proposed new building of the Association for the Concerned Citizen and the Parent of the Handicapped Children (PERPIKAT) Bintulu.

Speaking to the BP here at a charity jungle trekking organised by Junior Chamber (JC) Bintulu and Bintulu Hash House Harriers (BHHH) last weekend, the vice Chairman of PERPIKAT Mr. Hii Ming Hua extended his utmost thanks to the members of public, various societies, private sectors who had kindly contribute to the proposed building fund.

Although the proposed phase I building was estimated at RM500,000 , Hii said there should be no much problems to achieve balance of RM90,000 of the target. 

Presently, he said the building committee was still waiting for the final approval of BDA of the proposed architecture plan before the commissioning of any project works. 

He hope the authority concerned could expedite the process so as the project could be started as soon as possible.

Registered somewhere in September 1996, he said the association had 98 registred handicapped children so far.
 
Hii said, the objectives of the association was to provide training to the children so that they would be able to take care themselves while it also serves as the station for the parents to exchange their knowledges of looking after their handicapped children.

Meanwhile, Teo Ho Ping, the special assistant to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bintulu Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing JP, said that both the JCs and members of BHHH had indeed  shown their consciousness of the hardship faced by physically chanllenged children here via organising such charitable activities to jointly contribute to the PERPIKAT.

He also described the Hash Run as a healty recreational activities that gaining its porpularity nowadays.

Teo said physical exercise indeed a must for healthy bodies especially to those enjoying town life and used to the late night activities and excessive diets daily. 
 
The President of the JC Bintulu, Leveran Ngen hoped to see more members of local society to play their role in voluntary services to render their help and assistant for unfortunated and needies group in our society, in line with the government calls to build a caring society.

He also extended his special thanks encouraging support of the members of public for kindly taking part in the charitable fund raising lactivities.

Also present the flag-off ceremony of the event were Koh Yek Ming, National Vice President of JC, President of BHHH Andy Hii, organising chairman of the events Mathew Hii and more than 100 participants.
