| Bintulu, Thursday: In view
with great damage causes by storming wave at the shorelines during year
end LANDAS season from Tg. Batu to Tg. Kidurong, a continuos breakwater
rock revetments have been constructed along the northern and southern coastline
of the Bintulu Deep Water Port as protection from erosion a few years ago.
The northern shore protection works consists of a breakwater rock revetment connected to the South Reclamation area. It runs parallel to the coastline with a total length of 2.3 Kilometres running south of the reclamation area. The rock revetments are of high bund with a design level of + 5.5 metres CD. The seaward face is protected against wave action by armour rocks. Beacons have been installed at the revetment for navigation safety. The 1.6 KM long southern shore breakwater is between Tanjung Batu and the Batang Kemena river mouth and parallel to the coastline. The revetments which are of low bund with design of more than 1.4 metres, consist of armour rocks on both faces. Beacons have also been installed for navigation safety. The shore protection works is part of the capital dredging and reclamation being undertaken by the Bintulu Port Authority. Beside, shore protection is a statutory requirement of the Department of Environment (DOE) to prevent further erosion that may occur from the dredging and reclamation works...END. |
