Bintulu, Sunday: The official website of Bintulu Member of Parliament, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing was launched by him recently.

Located at http://www.p190bintulu.com, the website features the biodata of the Member of Parliament and the progress of his works since taking up the position as an elected representative for Bintulu people.

Also included were the development of Bintulu Constituency where rich number of photographs adds colours to the website which Tiong hoped will be a channel for the people to know as well as to communicate with him.

This site is also coupled with several interesting links as well as one link specified for the visitors to post their feedbacks to the Member of Parliament.

In conjunction with the official launching of the website, Tiong hoped that more people in Bintulu, in particular, and Malaysia as a whole will take greater interests towards upgrading their knowledge on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

He said a rich knowledge and knowhows in ICT is a tool that enable Malaysians to be better equipped to face the challenges brought about during this information age.

"Information and knowledge is power and everyone of us must now race towards obtaining as much information as possible in order to maintain an edge in this competitive world," he said.

He said the government had taken a lot of initiatives to promote the ICT interests among Malaysians, where the most notable effort was the creation of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC).

The bold step to establish MSC, according to Tiong, will catapult Malaysia to the front in the development of a knowledge economy (K-Economy) and knowledge society (K-Society).

In addition, plans are in place to gradually creates an E-Government (electronic government) in the country as well as opportunities to excel in the information technoloigy for the younger generation through the introduction of Smart School concept.

However, Tiong also warned on the many pitfalls emerged in the cyberworld where irresponsible people capitalise on the facilities to spread unfounded allegations and instigations against the Government.

Young visitors of the web were also advised to be aware of websites with insuitable contents and carrying elements of gambling or others that are against the Eastern values.

Acknowledging that it was an individual's liberal rights to make their choices, Tiong suggested that they should visit websites that contained informations that could help to develop themselves...END/BP
