19/09/2001:Two Members of PBB Sacked for Contesting Against BN
Bintulu, WED: Two members of PBB were immediately sacked after offering themselves to be elected on independent tickets respectively against the BN candidate Dr. Stephen Rundthee in N53 Kemena today, said Datuk Celestne Ujang anak Jilan, ex-member of DUN for the constituency.

The two members of PBB were Edward Galau anak Sigi, 49 and John Brian Anthony anak Jeremy Guang 46, said Datuk Ujang this afternoon at a press conference held at BN's operation centre for N53 Kemena.

Earlier in an interview with Borneo Post yesterday, Edward admitted that he is a member of Abang Abu's camp now who claimed to be pro-federal government.

He said, Edward as the assistant treasurer of PBB Kemena Branch in 1998 as well as John Brian from Ujang's longhouse Rh. Michael Lanyau had shown a little discipline as members of party by tarnishing the party's image.

Ujang stressed that the door of PBB for them had been closed immediately, adding that BN's supporters of the Kemena as well as people of Rh. Michael Lanyau would go all way to protest them.

He also clarified that voters should say "No!" to the rumour that being mongered around in Kemena by opposition that his retirement in politics was drop-out of Barisan Nasional.

Ujang said his retirement was no longer a news when he annouced his intention to be retired from politics in 1999 and being respected and accept by the party leaders.

Described as the political mentor by Dr. Rundi, Ujang also appealed to the people in Kemena to be united behind the BN canditate instead of rallying behind the opposition, whom he said could only talk and shout their lies and propaganda in their bid to win in the election.

Also, Ujang said he also awared more political propaganda aiming to hook for votes would arise.

Unlike BN, he said the opposition parties could not deliver the goods to the people but instead would lead them to nowhere.

When asked to comment on John Brian as a graduate and a trained lawyer who is now a company direcotr of a firm in Kuala Lumpur, he said for the past decade, John had never rendered any help to the constituency.

However, Ujang was confident that Rundthee had the advantage over the other canditate for not only his good personality but also having the criteria of a good leader who was one the very few to be groomed up by the party to become the future leaders.

He reminded all the members of BN component parties should strive in full swing to ensure the victory of BN, especially those in Kemena.

As the first local Iban doctor in Bintulu, he said Rundi having been a member of the PBB Supreme Council for two terms since 1995 had learnt a lot of his mission and vision of PBB to develop the constituency.

Ujang also described Dr. Rundi was the best leader who knew the struggle and vision of PBB to develop Kemena area when he come from, especially the rural people there in the mainstream of economic and educational development.

When asked to comment the influence of Abang Abu Bakar and the independent canditate to the voter, he was confident that groups with only political ideology but lack of action would not convince the voters of the Kemena.

Earlier on, during his speech to more than 2000 people at Rumah Meta, Ulu Sebauh, Ujang also praised Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing, the member of Parliament for P190 Bintulu for his enormous contribution to the people in the constituency, particularly those in the rural areas.

Since elected as MP here in 1999, he said Tiong had proven his sincerity to serve the people, had travelled to 640 longhouses once a year in his constituency to fulfill his promises to the longhouse folk.

He said, Tiong was not only listen to their plight, study their problems and providing them assitance in the forms of infrastructure, basic needs and other material things which included building materials and others.

He said, such caring attitude and development opportunities would never be seen in the opposition, a claim which he said was proven when the P190 Bintulu was under the control of the DAP for five years, prior to Tiong's victory in the 1999 parliamentary election.

Ujang reminded the people here to learn from the experiences.

Meanwhile, Rundi said, as a candidate groomed up by Ujang to become a politician was confident that the ex-minister for Housing and his political mentor Datuk Ujang was 100 percent supporting him during the election.

Rundi said he was well acknowledge of the challenge to be faced in Kemena's election, urging the people in the constituency not to listen

Although his political mentor Ujang had quitted from active politic, however Rundi said his post in the party would ramain.

He also called on the people in Kemena to support BN to enable the vision and mission of BN and Ujang could be continued to ensure the continuos development of the constituency.

He said in rural areas of Kemena, talks on political ideology by the opposition or independent would be a lies if they couldn't deliver any goods.

Nevertheless, Rundi said he had foresee the heavy tasks and responsiblities ahead in the continuation of Ujang's vision to develop the Kemena, especially the rural areas.

However, he stressed that his conscience was clear as he would not turn back in his political career as long as his service was needed.

Likesiwe, Tiong also called upon all the member of SNAP to be united by giving their full supports to every BN canditate in Bintulu, namely Dr. Stephen Rundthee (N52 Kemena), Michael Sim Khiam Hui (N53 Kidurong) and Talib Zulpilip (N54 Jepak).

Tiong also warned that if any "back-stabbing" found by members of SNAP, he would not hesitate to report to the party so as appropriate action could be taken...END.
