| BINTULU, Sun,- The Member of Parliament for P190 Bintulu Dato' Seri
Tiong King Sing yesterday expressed his regret over a false report allegedly
made by the representatives of Tabung Haji Plantation Sdn Bhd here with
regards to the establishment of the oil palm plantation in Sebauh, which
he said had backfired against the government of the day.
To ensure that no land dispute would arise in the future, Tiong said that all government agencies involved in any such development projects with good intention to assist the rural people, such as Tabung Haji, should make a proper arrangement with the people and that genuine reports with regards to the general response of the affected people there should also be submitted for scrutiny instead of making a false one, as was the case. He was saying this during his speech to more than four hundred people who attended the "meet the people session" held at Rumah Bana, Sungai Serakit, Sebauh, near here yesterday evening. In his speech, he said that at one time, he came all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Sebauh just for the purpose of mediation between the affected people and the said developer. He said that upon his arrival there he was informed that the said developer had earlier on brought in a team of policemen to the area purportedly for the purpose of protection against the dissapointed landowners. This, he said should not happen as the problem could be solved in an amicable way. It was the presence of the police, he said which caused uneasiness and fear among the people, thereby, allowing some of them to sign the documents against their will. However, he said that the affected people should not have signed any documents or papers or payment vouchers unless they consented to the terms and conditions or amount of compensation stipulated in the agreement or otherwise not until the dispute had been settled. "Don't take for granted that you will fight the rest in court later" Tiong added. He called upon the affected people there to be patient while at the same time finding out proper ways and means to solve the problem with the developer, otherwise, he said that such issue would be more or less like inviting the opposition to fight you. Likewise, Tiong also called upon Tabung Haji to find a solution to the problem immediately. To conclude, he assured the affected landowners that he would bring the matter to the attention of the relevant authorities so that appropriate actions could be taken. Meanwhile, Tiong also urged all the member of SNAP in Bintulu to render their full support and working in full force with other component parties to ensure the victory of BN here. He also reminded the members of SNAP should not back-stabbing BN candidates here and putting their discontentment aside, stressing that appropriate action would be taken if members of the party was found doing so...END. |
