11/09/2001:RM48,000 MRP to Nine Associations in Sebauh
BINTULU, Mon.- The Minister for Housing Dato' Celestine Ujang Anak Jilan, yesterday presented a total of RM48,000 grants to nine associations in N52 Kemena under the Minor Rural Project Programme.

The nine receipients were the Parents-Teachers Associations (PIBG) SK Kuala Pandan, PIBG Tadika Kemas, PIBG SK Kampung Pandan, PIBG SK Sungai Labang, PIBG Sungai Binyu, PIBG SK Nanga Kebulu, Jelalong, JKK Rumah Meta, JKK Rumah Assan, JKK Rumah Michael Lanyau in Sebauh.

Datuk Celestine Ujang who is also incumbent for N52 Kemena also said that more such grants, especially for the longhouses and schools in the area would continue to come in on a yearly basis, adding that what had been allocated now is not political in nature.

So far, Ujang said that a total of RM300,000 had been allocated for similar purposes in Kemena alone, aimed at improving the standard of living of the rural people.

Actually, Ujang said that every year each constituency received a total of RM950,000 budget for the Minor Rural Development Project, RM450,000 from the State Government while another RM500,000 is from the Federal Governmnet respectively.

This, Ujang said was part of the government's effort to eradicate poverty
among the rural folks so that by vision 2020 their standard of living would be at par with those who were considered as more advanced groups both socially and economically.

However, despite of all these, Ujang said that the opposition still keep on saying that the government had not done much to help the people, adding that they what they propagated among the people were lies aimed at disrupting the unity of the people for reasons known to by themselves.

Also present during the function were the Bintulu District officer Encik Philip Ho Thin Huat, Deputy Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu N52 Kemena Dr. Steven Rundi, Special Assistant to the Bintulu Member of Parliament Encik Teo Ho Ping and community leaders.
