03/08/2001:RM1.25 Million New Fire Engine for     Bintulu 
Bintulu, Friday: Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station here will be among the two fire station in the state to receive a new RM1.25 million multipurpose fire engine equiped with latest fire fighting technology.

State Fire and Rescue Director Mr. Seruji Hj. Asri revealed yesterday, adding that two others new 4 wheel-drive fire fighting vehicle would be dispatched to Betong and Limbang after an official visit to Fire and Rescue station here. 

He hope with such improvement of the equipment, it would facilitate and enhance the fire service here.

He also disclosed that the department's plan to set up a new Search and Rescue (S&R) team which could be sub-divided to land and water S&R team at all zones statewide.

The first  S&R team was formed and launched recenlty in Kuching, he added.

He also urged firemen to equiped themselve in coping with the Information Technology so as to increase or updating their knowledges in fire fighting. 

Meanwhile, Bintulu acting Superintendent Ismuni Tepo in his speech also reviewed the history of Bintulu Fire Station which had been providing it service since 1961 with only fireman to 53 todate.

It was in December 1992, the fire station was moved from town centre  to the present building along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi. 

Among the officers present were the State Chief Operation Officer Ali Bema Jelek, Public Relations Officer Augustine Jenka and Station Head Sabaruddin Mohamad.
