04/11/2000: Resident Seek Dato' Seri Tiong for Drainage Up-grade

Bintulu, Tuesday: Residents of Taman Lucky urged the authority concerned to immediately upgrade the deteriorated drainage system in the residential area which has been raised for the attention for the past five years.

Upon receiving  a jointly undersigned written appeals, Mr. Teo Ho Ping ( Cikgu Teo), special assistant to the Member of Parliament for P190 Bintulu Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing JP visited the affected area this morning with a few members of Welfare Seesion of Tiong's People Service Centre here.

Owing to the land settlement, a resident surnamed Tan told Teo that  a  total of 14 houses affected whereby water remained stagnant at a critical level, approaching the brim while immersing the manhole of the septic tank by the side of drain.

Tan said, the situation caused the septic tanks in a few residents' premises to become overflow frequently despite the pump-out of the tank.

As a result, the inflow of water get through the outlet of the underground sewer that led to the overflowing septic tanks to spread its foul liquid over the surroundings.

He said, various appeals regarding the matter had been made via  people elected representatives here since 1995. 

In the worst case, according to another resident, whenever there was a down pour of heavy rain, the drain water overflowed easily and flash flooded all over their housing compound.

Beside, the stagnant water also become the best breeding grounds for the mosquito, he added.
 
Although the authority had agreed to upgrade the damaged drain verbally, there was no action had been taken until now, he added.

He said, the authority did send some workers to scoop out the sediment and clear away the waste materials in the drain, nevertheless, the labour efforts did not help to improve the situation because it could not drain the water away.

Worst still, he said the drain water remains as stagnant as ever before with its level rising higher and higher due to the uneven land settlement at various part of the drain-bed in the area. 

After the inspection, Teo who is also the officer-in-charge of Tiong's People Service Centre here said the appeals of the Taman Lucky residents  would definitely be forwarded to the authority concerned to seek for the reconstruction of the drainage system in the area in coordination with the upgrading of Tg. Batu road...END.
