| BINTULU, Wed.-The government will and continue to use multi-pronged approaches to ensure the quality and the level of services rendered by government servants throughout the country, especially in rural areas are continuously improved, Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Tiong King Sing said today. He said these multi-pronged approaches are being adopted in an effort to reduce the dissatisfaction among the people on the level of services provided by the civil service. He mentioned this after receiving a reply from the Minister in the Prime Mininster's Department Tan Sri Bernard Dompok to his question at the Parliamentary session today. Tiong has asked whether the government had a more effective approach in ensuring the government servants' quality and level of services to the rural folks are continuously improved and enhanced in view of the dissatisfaction expressed by the rakyat. "The government is continuously finding ways to improve the overall quality of the staff in terms of skills, ability and courtesy so that they would further understand the ways of life and the needs of the people especially in the rural areas", he said. Among the programmes being implemented by the government to improve the quality of services to the rakyat are instilling good values among the civil servants and increasing the frequency of skills training programmes. The government has also implemented in disseminating the circulars on the advancement of civil service, whose prime objective is to enhance the productivity among the civil servants. Tiong said other programmes included the constant training of civil servants on the understanding of government policies, organising visits to monitor the implementation of projects and holding frequent talks between the civil servants and the members of the public through the existing government policies. "I hoped the rakyat would in turn give their close cooperation and support to the government department and agencies. The government would continue to give its best to serve the rakyat but the people should not be too demanding when things do not go their way", he said. He added that development programmes could be achieved successfully if the rakyat and the government worked closely, in a friendlier and nicer manner, to create a win-win situation. | |
