| BINTULU, Fri:- Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing hope that splitting of long houses due to squabble could be decreased to zero in his P190 constituency. He believed that no disputes could not be solved provided both parties concerned can come to a round table, give way to others and achieved mutual understanding. Furthermore, he said the splitting of long houses was not encouraged by the government as the split longhouse will not be recognised. Speaking to reporters after visiting 10 long houses up river from here yesterday, Tiong said that newly split longhouses may face many difficulties in getting government assistance. He hoped that for any disputes, longhouse folks should seek the helps and negotiate from the local community leaders, like the Kapitan and Penghulu. He visited Rh Idau, Rh Patang, Rh Nyipa, Rh Chating, Rh Lembang, Rh Benit, Rh Irai, Rh Gemon, Rh Serang and Rh Sengok yesterday. All these longhouses have a total of about 140 families. On the national identity cards and birth certificate problems in the rural areas, Tiong said that this matter has been brought up to the Ministry of Home Affairs. He disclosed that a government team comprising officers from Kuala Lumpur and Kuching will be sent here sometime this year to help in the registration at the rural areas under his constituency. Thus, he urged all longhouse folks to stay at home once these officers are here as not to miss the good chance. Touching on how to serve the rural areas more efficiently, Tiong said that a rural people service team will be set up in June. He said the team will hold dialogue sessions regularly with longhouses. "One of my visions to involve in politics is trying my best to upgrade the standard of living for the people in my constituency, especially the rural folks whom should have better basic infrastructures and amenities", he added. | |
