28/04/2000: Tiong Expresses Sympathy to Bukit Orang Fire Victims
BINTULU, Fri.-Member of Parliament for Bintulu Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing expressed sympathy to the fire victims who have lost their homes and properties in the evening fire at Bukit Orang here today.

Tiong who is at Kuala Lumpur immediately dispersed his welfare team led by Mr Kong Kung Kwong to the scene to rendered assistants to the fire victims.

He urged fire victims who need helps to approach his service centre here and his welfare team will be giving some immediate reliefs.

Tiong said that he will be coming to Bintulu on May 1 and personally inspect the fire scene to see for himself how to assist them.

Meanwhile, He urged people staying in wooden houses to be vigilance to prevent fire from happenning.

Former MP for Bintulu, Mr Chiew Chin Sing who present at the scene has urged the authority to provide fire fighting equipments to those densily populated wooden houses areas.

He said although these houses are said to be illegal but the inhabitants are loyal citizens and tax payers.

He said these low income group are labourers who have contributed a lot to the development here.

Chiew said the government should look into the problems and solve wooden houses problem gradually.

He also urged the Federal government to provide sufficient fund to the Fire and Rescue Department to maintain their fire fighting equipments regularly.
