| BINTULU, Mon.-A groyne will be constructed at the beach front at Taman Seaview, Tg. Batu hereto protect the houses from being eroded away by sea waves. The project was materialised with the special allocation from the Federal Governemnt, thanked to Member of Parliament for Bintulu Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing who has raised the problem fast at the Federal level. The project is expected to be started by August, DeputyDirector of the State Drainage and Irrigation (DID) Department, Mr Sim Kok Kee disclosed at here recently. When inspecting the erosion at the beach front of Taman Seaview here last Friday, Sim said that officers from his department have been getting various survey data on the wave movement and erosion at this area and this satistics was submitted to the relevant authorities. Houses at the beach front at Taman Seaview have been badly damaged and affected by the strong waves come with high tides last December. The security and safety committee of Taman Seaview has reported this situation to Dato' Seri Tiong and the authority concerned at that time urging for immediate action to solve the problem. The serious erosion at the beach front has been occurred about 2 decades ago. For the past years, waves has eroded more that 200 metres of beach into the sea. The residents at this area have jointly constructed a retaining wall to protect their properties but the waves came with extra ordinary high tides at last december still badly damaged a house there. As such, Dato' Seri Tiong has urged the authority concerned to extend the present retaining wall by 50 to 100 metres so to reclaim the beach that has been eroded away. He said with the extension of the retaining wall, it will acts as the second level of protection in case the groyne can not prevent the strong waves from coming into the houses nearer to the beach front. Representative from Taman Seaview, Mr Paul Chan expressed his gratitude to Bintulu MP, Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing and the government for assisting the people to solve their problems. | |
