| BINTULU, Tues.-Bintulu, Thursday: Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Dato' Tiong King Sing had submitted a written request for Federal fund to undertake urgent remedial coastal protection works at Taman Seaview, Jalan Tanjong Batu. The residents had been reliably informed through their JKKK representative, Tiong promptly attended a dialogue session with the residents on December Tiong further pointed out to the ministry, he was acknowledged that residents of Taman Seaview, especially those resided along the frontage had to bear at their own costs to repair the property damage during each monsoon season. Consecutive erosion of past decades had also shorten the 200 feet frontage to present 50 feet seashore as Tiong was told by residents during the dialogue. He proposed under the request that reclaimation works had to be made to extend the buffer zone for 100 metres between the shoreline and the affected houses. The residents had formerly engaged a contractor to complete a `rock-wall' in Additionally, he requested the Ministry's assistance to allocate RM2.0 Million for the necessary engineering works to prevent further severe damage. It was also pointed out that past action implemented on the construction of Memorandum of Mr. Ting Sing Kwong, Divisional Engineer of Miri-Bintulu Divisional of Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), relevent paper cuttings since 1983 were also attached with the letter to the ministry concerned. When contacted, Chan expressed his gratitude on the behalf of the 200 residents and said they all look forward to the Ministry's favourable action to alleviate their hardship suffered during the past 20 years. | |
