01/09/1999: SNAP Determined to Wrest back Bintulu & Mas Gading
BINTULU, Tues.- Sarawak National Party(SNAP) is having a very heavy responsibility and big mission in the coming general election to defend 2 seats in Baram and Saratok and to wrest back another 2 seats in  Mas Gading and Bintulu.

Stated this here Sunday night, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Mr Peter Nyarok ak Entrie said that the party's goal and vision is to take back the two Parliamentary seats of Mas Gading and Bintulu which they lost in the last election.

"With the strong organisation in SNAP and the close cooperation with other Barisan Nasional component parties, we are confidence to wrest back the two seats", he said.

Addressing at the Women's and National Day dinner organised by Wanita SNAP Kidurong here on Sunday night, Peter Nyarok said that to ensure the victory, candidates selected to contest in Mas Gading, Bintulu, Saratok and Baram must be given fullest support by all the BN component parties, especially SNAP itself.

He said in return, SNAP will give their undivided support and cooperation to any BN candidates in other constituencies during the election.

Peter Nyarok pointed out that if they are able to win 4 Parliamentary seats that are contested, SNAP will be having a strong representation in the Federal Government with another Senatorship.

"With more seats in the Federal level, SNAP would be able to play an important roles in the Parliament", he said.

He added that with 4 seats in hand, SNAP will apply for one post of Parliamentary Secretary in the federal level and they would be having more says in the decision making body at the central government.

Earlier, Peter Nyarok said that the government has recognised the contribution of the women community in our country.

He said women makes up of about 50 per cent of the population and they have a very significant contribution towards the harmonious, goodwill and stability of the nation.

After 41 years of Indepedence, Malaysian women have changed from solely taking care of their children and household work to administrators of offices and heads of departments in this modern society.

"This is a new reality as more women joined the professional line like doctors, lawyers, engineers and accountants, he said.

However, Peter Nyarok said women have only involved in politics in the last decade or so.

He said in SNAP, women only joined  the politics in the 1980s.

But, he said women's roles in politics is significant as they contributed almost equal votes to the male counterparts during election.

Peter Nyarok, who is the vice-president in SNAP has urged more women to join the party so that they are able to form the women wings in all the 62 divisions of the State constituencies.

He hoped that the present members will work harder to recruit more members into the party so that they are SNAP new branches being formed in every places throughout the State.

"This is a challenge for us", he added.

Secretary-general of SNAP, Mr Justine Jinggut said that women play a very importance roles of taking care of their children so that they are grow up to be come a good citizen.

He said failure to that will lead to many social problems bring about by the younger generation of the society.

Mr Justine Jinggut emphasized that SNAP is a multi-racial party and any capable leaders in the party can be chosen as the leader.

Therefore, he urged the younger one in the party to learn the philosophy of the party and to do somethings for the next 35 years.

Also present were senior vice-president of SNAP, Mr Richard Wong, representatives from BN component parties, local dignitaries and leaders of SNAP from throughout the State.
