| BINTULU, Mon.-Main contractors and sub-contractors who are not efficient enough in carrying out their works and caused prolonged delay of projects should be blacklisted, Treasurer-general of Sarawak National Party Dato' Tiong King Sing said here yesterday. He said many complaints have been received from the people on several delay projects here which have made the people to suffer from many inconveniences. Dato' Tiong was refering to the delay of Jalan Sebiew and the new Bintulu Hospital projects. He said the government's action to blacklist the in-efficient contractors should included those high-profile main contractors. "They should not take thing for granded by delaying the completion of projects for many many times as they were the one to bid for the tender and the government paid them money", he said. In a press conference held at Bintulu SNAP service centre here yesterday afternoon, Dato' Tiong urged the contractors and consultants to complete the upgrading works of Jalan Sebiew as soon as possible. He said at the moment, the road posed hazards to the road users especially there were no signal lights at dangerous points, piles of steel bars and gravel at road side etc. The most concern of people living along the road is the non-stop dust going into the houses of the people, he said. For prolonged breathing in the dust will be a health hazard to the people, he added. Dato' Tiong also expressed disastifaction on the delay of the new Bintulu Hospital. He said the new hospital was scheduled to be completed in August after it was allowed to be delayed for several times. But, from my observation, it would not be able to compete with time as many external infrastructures was not completed. He regretted that the contractors have taken the opportunities of taking up the projects for granded. He urged the main contractors and sub-contractors to sit down and solve all the problems for the hospital to be completed to benefit the people here. He disclosed that the Federal Deputy Minister for Health will be coming here to inspect the project for himself the second time next month. On the proposed Alumina Refinery project at Similajau, Dato' Tiong condemned Bintulu DAP's secretary, Mr Vincent Lee for confusing the people by the latter's statement in the press. He said Lee should talk about facts and must prove to the people here that the project is very health hazard and bad to the people. In fact, talking on spin-off effects, the project will bring economical benefits and incomes to the people, he said. He also asked Lee to stop working for the government owned corporated body as he is against the government. "You should not use one hand to slap your father and another hand to ask money from you father", he added. | |
