| BINTULU, Thurs.-Treasurer-general of Sarawak National Party (SNAP), Dato' Tiong King Sing has stressed that being a leader of political party or the people elected representative, one should be more keen in solving problems faced by the people, but not just putting their voices in the media. He said the opposition has always used this tactics to gain publicity, just so to make known to the public that they are dealing with the people's problems. Dato' Tiong was responding to several press statements made by DAP leaders in several Chinese dailies recently. He said that issues like ways of upgrading the standard of living for the people, problems faced by hawkers and poverty are a few topics that should be discussed and worked on finding solutions to them. Why waste our efforts, energy and time in matters that will not benefit the people, he asked. He pointed out that the most important task of a politician is to carry out his duty with all his most sincerity and striving effort. "A politician should have a leadership capability whereby the people can look up and consult about their problems and are able to try their best in solving them", he added. Barisan Nasional (BN) is only interested in the unity and forming a co-operation for the interest and prosperity of the poeple, Tiong said. "If, Mr Chiew Ching Sing really wants to defend the interest of Bintulu people, he should leave DAP and join the BN. I am suggesting this without any intention of ridiculing or questioning YB Chiew's credibility, but based on the fact that no matter how remarkable a person is, if he as the peoples' elected representative is not from the ruling government, he will not be able to uplift the standard of living of the people", he said. "I have not intention in touching the sensitive matter on who are more powerful and influential, as what is far more important is to solve the peoples' problems", he added. Dato' Tiong has also took the opportunity to clear several issues relating to the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA). He said BDA is a government agency which is approachable and perhaps the problems arised because there are some misunderstanding and communication gap. He urged the public to give him a chance and a bit of time in trying his best to solve the problems related to the BDA. He pointed out that some of the complaints are short period to pay the overparking fees, loading and unloading of goods in the town centre and high participation fee for health seminar. He said he was awared of these problems and has discussed with the relevant officers of BDA to find a better solutions. He added that for the start, in solving the communication gap, he has arranged a meet the people session between the United Chinese Hawkers Association and the BDA, which will be held soon. | |
