04/02/1999: Tiong Meet the General Manager of BDA 
BINTULU, Thurs.-Treasurer-general of Sarawak National Party(SNAP), 
Datuk Tiong King Sing has met with the general manager of  Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) regarding the problems at Pasar 
Utama Bintulu.

According to Datuk Tiong, the meeting was aimed at helping the hawkers to solve their problems.

He said they have discussed the matters on the clogged pipeline 
at the first floor of the central market and other problems  like rain water coming into the market.

At a press conference at the airport VIP room here this afternoon, Datuk Tiong King Sing disclosed that the BDA will be awarding the contract works to rectify the clogged pipeline soon.

He said as to prevent rain from coming into the hawkers centre, the authority concerned will study into the problems as Bintulu is close to the sea and the wind is very strong.

He urged the hawkers to bear with the authority concerned for the moment as the BDA will do somethings to solve the problems.

Datuk Tiong also requested the hawkers association here to work closely with SNAP Bintulu as the latters are dedicated to come in to help in solving the problems.

He said if they faced any problems, they can liase with the SNAP office here or contact Mr Patrick Tang (019-8548979).

When asked by reporters on who will be the candidate from SNAP to contest for the Bintulu Parliamentary seat in the coming election, Datuk Tiong said the candidancy is not very important to him.

He said what is most important for a political party is that they are able to give the best services to the people.

He pointed out that he was directed by the party president to look after the SNAP Bintulu branches and that was the reason why he was always in Bintulu after being appointed the treasurer-general of the party.

"We will try our best to service the people here", he added.

On another question of the possibility of wresting back the seat from the opposition, Datuk Tiong said Barisan Nasional stands a good chance if all the component parties work hand in hand as a team.
 He said after several preliminary visitings here, he found that the support is still there and BN candidate will has a good chance of winning the seat.

He added that SNAP will continue to serve the poeple here even after the election and the SNAP office here will be a permanent one to serve the people
