  • BINTULU: On many stretches of the Bintulu-Miri Coastal Road, it is common to see   oil palm trees growing right on the road verges.
  • This antics of palm oil companies has irked Bintulu Member of Parliament, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.
  • He  said these companies should not encroach on gazetted land. Under the law, both sides of the coastal highway are reserved for the planting of flowers or shrubs to beautify the area.
  • “But these oil palm firms have apparently overdone it by planting oil palm trees instead on these gazetted areas. They should have planted the crop within the periphery of their land only,” he said.

  • KUCHING:  Chairman of Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club, Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing, said the management company of North-South Expressway PLUS should review the so-called “New Year Joy” toll savings announced last Wednesday. 
  • He regretted that the discounts only applied to Class I vehicles, namely, private cars but not other types of commercial vehicle.

  • Lead by chairman Chong Chee Phin, delegates of Sarawak United Chinese Primary Aided Schools Management Board pay a courtesy call to the Chairman of Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) today (November 27 2008). 
  • They are later arranged to meet with the Deputy Minister of Education Datuk Dr. Wee Ka Siong for the Chinese primary aided schools in the state via Tiong King Sing.

    • Kuala Lumpur: BN Back Benchers' Club chairman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the people had had enough with the Public Works Department (PWD) for cooking up excuses in the delays of rural road projects, adding this had made the people sufferi the consequences for decades. 
    • Speaking to the Borneo Post yesterday, he said whenever questions were raised in the parliament on rural road project in Sarawak, the department would give wonder stories of how they would benefit the people, but, when a project came to implementation, the rural folks would have to wait and wait.

    • The Chairman of Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club Dato?Seri Tiong King Sing urged the management company of North-South Expressway PLUS to kindly review the so-called ?ew Year Joy?toll saving announced on Wednesday. 
    • Tiong regretted the discounts only applied to Class I vehicles, namely private car but not other type of commercial vehicles as well.

    • He said the Ministry of Works should take into serious consideration especially the country is predicting drastic increase of inflation causing by fuel's hike since last year whereby economic downturn was predicted ahead following the impact of global economic crisis. 
    • Tiong said he had received numerous of people complaints stating that PLUS should be more social concern as freight was among one of the key factor contributing to increasing price of goods. 
    16/11/2008:Dato' Seri Tiong King Sing's reply to Ipoh Barat MP Lim Kit Siang for his remark that BNBBC members are spoilt brats.
    • In response to Ipoh Timur MP Lim Kit Siang's statement that Dato’ Seri Tiong and his club’s deputy chairman Bung Moktar Radin, Kinabatangan MP, are spoilt brats for their refusal to join the opposition's Parliamentary Caucus on the Integrity and Independent of Judiciary, Dato Seri Tiong said the opposition's caucus was not a statutory body in the parliament, and therefore, they had the right not to join it. 
    • He called on Lim not to be furious over their decision.
    • He said if the organisation was a statutory body in the House, his club members would be obliged to join.

    • The Chairman of BNBBC Dato'  Seri Tiong King Sing extended his utmost appreciation to the opposition leader Dato'  Seri Anwar Ibrahim for inviting a member from the Club through his Press Release to participate in Parliamentary Caucus on the Integrity and Independent of Judiciary. (Pertubuhan Kaukus Integriti Kehakiman).
    • However, Tiong stressed it was all out to PAKATAN to appoint its members and nothing relevant to the BNBBC, adding that he only learn through a Press Release.

    • BINTULU: Chairman of BN Back Benchers' Club Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said members of parliament should use time wisely in the house debates so that they could voice out for the people effectively.
    • Commenting on opposition MPs Fong Poh Guan of Batu Gajah and Chong Chieng Jin of Kuching being expelled from a parliamentary session last week, he said he was disappointed with how Fong had intercepted in a debate, thereby disrupting the parliamentary proceeding.

    • BINTULU: Member of Parliament for Bintulu Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said he would appeal to the Transport Ministry to consider building motorcycle lanes in Sarawak to protect riders from accidents.
    • Speaking to the Borneo Post yesterday afternoon, he said there was no such lane yet in the State, adding that riders had been sharing the same lanes with truck, lorry and car drivers, thereby putting them in greater risks in accidents.

    • KUALA LUMPUR: BN Back Benchers' Club chairman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing called on opposition leader Lim Kit Siang to stop mocking the students and graduates of University of Malaya (MU).
    • In a press statement yesterday afternoon, Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP, alleged Lim had made sarcastic remarks on the oldest university in the country when he poked fun on Member of Parliament for Pasir Salak Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman for being a graduate from that university.
    • He said abusing the name of MU or any university in the country would only demoralise the graduates and the undergraduates.

    • KUALA LUMPUR: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing warned of serious brain drain in the country when STPM students with excellent results were grabbed by foreign universities after our own universities closed their door to them.
    • Speaking to the Borneo Post yesterday, Tiong, who is also the BN Back Bencher Club chairman, said foreign universities had not only happily grabbed our top students, they even offered scholarship to them.

    • BINTULU: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing called on the Home Ministry to materialise upgrading the police status in Bintulu from being that of a District Police to the Divisional Police.
    • Speaking to the Borneo Post yesterday, he said the Bintulu police status had been lifted in an announcement by the prime minister a few years back, "yet, the Bintulu police still remains as it is today a district police due to the lack of its infra structure.
    • "Being disappointed, he said he had appealed in the parliament numerous times to speed up the plan.

    02/10/2008: Police probing case of threatening letter to Bintulu MP...Eastern Times Sarawak, published September 26, 2008.
    • BINTULU: State Commissioner of Police, Datuk Mohamad Salleh, says the police are investigating  a case involving a threatening letter addressed to Bintulu Member of Parliament, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing on Monday.
    • He said the case was being investigated under  section 507 of the Penal Code. 
    • Mohamad  told reporters this when asked to comment on the alleged letter sent by a woman to his service centre at ParkCity Commercial Square Centre on Monday.

    Sep 24 2008: Tiong: Straight to solve Sex Video Clip among Student. Don't Misuse Headmasters' Council
    • Tiong has called on Julaihi to step down for his inefficient dealing with the sex video clips , and an objection came from the Sarawak Teachers' Union on Monday. 
    • This was followed by another objection from Sarawak Headmasters' Council on Tuesday. Its chairman Abang Sapali Abang Sepawi claimed it was unfair to point fingers on an individual because improving the education system was a collective effort. 

    • In a press statement yesterday, Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP, said Abang Sapali, being in the teaching profession, should have led by example in calling on teachers, headmasters and members of the Parent-teacher Association to help our students.

    • SIBU: Barisan Nasional Backbencher Club chairman Dato Seri Tiong King Sing yesterday retaliated the statement of William Ghani Bina, the president of Sarawak Teachers' Union, for slamming his (Tiong's) call on the Sarawak Education director to step down.
    • In his four-page reply received here yesterday, Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP, said William Ghani had failed to do his homework on the issue and had therefore not fully understood the situation when he hit out at him (Tiong) on the sexual video clips involving students in Bintulu.

    • Tiong had, in his earlier statement, called on Sarawak Education director Dr. Julaihi Bujang to step down for his inefficiency in dealing with the video clips involving students and William Ghani, in his statement on Monday, described the call as an insult to all teachers.

    • BINTULU: The State Education Director should step down due to inability to resolve problems involving students here. Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said he was disappointed by the lackadaisical attempt of State Education Department in addressing incident of students involved in sex in school.
    • Tiong, who had earlier highlighted cases of students recording their own love-making moments using either mobile phones or camera, expressed his amazement that the matter had not been looked into by State Education Director seriously.

    • KUCHING: The Chairman of Barisan Nasional Back Benchers Club (BNBBC), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing yesterday threw a challenge to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reveal the name of BN Members of Parliament (MPs) who have crossed over to Pakatan Rakyat.

    • "Just reveal their names lah. Why so difficult for him to do that instead of lying everywhere he goes,” Tiong told Eastern Times when contacted at Quangzou, China over Anwar’s claim that 31 BN MPs had crossed over to join the Pakatan Rakyat."

    • BINTULU: Crimes committed by young people in Malaysia are showing an increase when compared to last year’s figures. Member of  Parliament for Bintulu, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, expressed concern over the rising trend as this is not good news for the nation.
    • He revealed that based on the study conducted by the police, there were 8,671 cases of young people, aged 18 and below, involved in crimes in the first nine months of this year compared to 6,611 cases reported for the corresponding period last year.
    • 15% of 1,669 cases of violent crimes were committed by young people and for homicide and murder, young people accounted for 5% of 473 cases.
    • "He pointed out that juveniles also involved in theft cases like stealing of motor vehicles and were responsible for 3% of 11,3939 theft cases and 6% for smuggling and drug trafficking cases.
    • He said that based on statistics for the same period, 216 cases of sexual crime out of 1,833 reported were committed by juveniles this year.

    • KUCHING: State Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders described Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) claim of having another 40 parliamentary seats to form the next federal government as a lie and mere psychological warfare to confuse the people.
    • The President of Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam said it was a desperate attempt by the PKR to lure the people to join their party.

    • The Dewan Rakyat question-and-answer session came to a standstill for 15 minutes when PKR MPs went up in arms against the reply given by a deputy minister on the recent assault on journalists in the Parmatang Pauh by-election.
    • In his answer to Datuk Seri tiong King Sing (BN - Bintulu), Deputy Home Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung said the police had received reports of violence against two photographers and Barisan supporters by a mob wearing PKR shirts on nomination day on Saturday.
    • “The police are investigating the complaints but it would seem that the claim (that they are PKR members) is correct,” he said, prompting Azmin Ali (PKR - Gombak) to stand up instantly to protest.

    • Kuala Lumpur: A Deputy Minister’s reply on the beating of two press photographers during nomination for the Permatang Pauh by-election recently caused an uproar in the Dewan Rakyat here yesterday. 
    • It was sparked off by a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (BN-Bintulu) who wanted to know who were responsible for the beating. 
    • Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Chor Chee Heung replied “according to the photopgrahers’ report, they were beaten up by members and supporters of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) or the opposition.

    • BINTULU: Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing called on the operators of recycle centres here to stop buying scrap iron from thieves.
    • In a press statement yesterday, he said thefts of scrap metals had become rampant, and he had received numerous public complaints.
    • He said "only when the buying stops, so will the thefts. Therefore, recycle operator should stop buying these stolen items".

    • Bintulu: The Chairman of Barisan Nasional Back Benches Club, Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing called on the investigators to speed up their work to prevent public members from becoming panicky again over the feared rice shortage in the market.

    04/08/2008: Tiong unhappy over irresponsible answer of BDA officer to hawkers
    • BINTULU: Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing was unhappy with an officer of  Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) for pushing responsibity when hawkers of Bintulu Hawker Centre pleaded to him to hire watchman to overcome frequent break-ins there.
    • In a press statement, Tiong, who is also the chairman of the Back Bencher Club, was shocked that the officer had told the hawkers that the BDA had no money to hire the watchman, adding that it did not have such budget.

    • In a press statement yesterday, he said he did not encourage public members to tackle criminals alone.

    • BINTULU: Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing today announced a grant of RM30,000 for Bintulu School Bus Operator Association as a temporary measure to help their members curb the oil price hike.
    • In a press statement received here, Tiong, who is also the chairman of the Parliament Back Bencher Club, hoped with such a measure, it would help the members pull through the difficult time now.
    • He said help would be on the way from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumers' Affair for those who had yet to receive the oil subsidy cards.

    • BINTULU: A Rakan Muda Club will be set up in each parliamentary constituency in the country to promote and plan for youth activities in the country.
    • Replying Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing in the parliamentary sitting last week, the Youth and Sports Ministry said altogether, a total of 219 clubs would be formed.
    • It said this was the nation's effort to rejuvenate the youth in their mission towards nation building.

    30/06/2008: Tiong questions Education Ministry for low intake rate of teacher training colleges.
    • BINTULU: Education Minister Dato Sri Hisamuddin Tun Hussein Onn said there were 4,726 school leavers with Form Five qualification being accepted to the teachers' training colleges this year.
    • Replying Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing in the parliamentary sitting last week, he said these were among those picked from 108,94 applicants, adding that response to teaching post applications had always been overwhelming, and each year, more youngsters were applying.

    • BINTULU: A special Mini-Blueprint will be drawn up by the Education Ministry to help develop non-government type schools and government-aided schools in the country.
    • Education Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said this mini-blueprint would be part of comprehensive measures taken by his Ministry to help the students in these schools.
    • The Government would look into the welfare and development needs of these schools such as the basic facilities, the upgrading of infrastructure and other needs.
    • "This is to ensure that the welfare and needs of students in these schools are given the necessary attention,’’" he said.

    • BINTULU: Elected wakil rakyat, politicians or community leaders are obliged to serve all people irrespective of their racial or ethnic background.
    • Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said it was the principle of Barisan Nasional government for all the people to enjoy the fruits of development and prosperity. Tiong added that the wakil rakyat should treat everyone equally besides looking after the interest or rights of people in his own community.

    03/06/2008: MP calls for law to regulate bloggers
    • BINTULU: A law needs to be formulated to regulate and monitor the activities of bloggers and websites which disseminate negative and untruthful information.
    • Bintulu Member of Parliament,  Dato Seri Tiong King Sing  said although the Barisan Nasional Government was supportive of freedom of expressions or media freedom, there must be a limit to it to ensure that the bloggers  disseminate information responsibly.

    • KUCHING: The Health Ministry has revealed that a staggering 55 per cent of doctor's posts in Sarawak are vacant, while the national average stands at 40 per cent.

    • BINTULU: The Local Government and Housing Ministry has identified two sites in Sarawak for the construction of low cost houses under the Integrated People Housing Project of the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).

    • KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) today proposed that the government set up a special committee to discuss issues of public interest raised by parliamentarians and postponing the mega projects.

    • THE Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club lodged a police report against DAP chairman Karpal Singh yesterday for questioning the Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah's decision to reinstate Datuk Jamry Sury as head of the Perak Religious Department.

    • In a press statement received here yesterday, Tiong, who is also the youth chief of SPDP, said he had received praises from the people in Sibu after the police vowed an all out action against these criminals.

    • Sarawak Progresive Democratic Party (SPDP) Youth Chief Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing won the biggest majority of 14, 965 votes for the Bintulu parliamentary seat while Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Chief Haji Fadillah Yusof won with a majority of 14, 397 votes, the second highest majority for the Petra Jaya parliamentary seat.

    • BINTULU: Barisan Nasional incumbent Dato Seri Tiong King Sing lambasted the opposition for misleading the electorate about the construction of the Aluminum Smelter Plant (ASP) in Similajau here.
    • He called on Democratic Action Party (DAP) to do its homework and study the matter thoroughly before making any wild allegations such as the claim that the project would become a health risk for the people because of pollution.

    • SIBU: BN candidate for Bintulu Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing claimed that certain groups were trying to stop rural voters from going to the polls. 
    • Speaking at meet-the-people sessions as he visited Rumah Yeos, Rumah Tangdang, Kemena Port Housing Estate and Kampung Segan last weekend, he said several rural people had complained to him about being persuaded not to go voting.

    • Election leaflets distributed by the DAP hammered Tiong on the issue, claiming that the incumbent had failed to help the Jalan Sultan Iskandar squatters to get land for them to build their houses.
    • The leaflets show photographs of government officials dismantling the houses, and the DAP asks the people to vote for their candidate Lim Su Kien.

    • Bintulu: The BN candidate for Bintulu Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing last night expressed his disappointment over the indifferent attitude of the shipping company after two of their divers went missing while repairing their ship last Friday. 
    • A family member of missing diver Chew King Jung, surnamed Hu, told Tiong yesterday that they were disatisfied with the company, as it had failed to keep them informed of the latest development of their and search mission.

    • BINTULU: The people have been reminded not to take the prevailing unity in the country for granted.
    • Bintulu Resident Dr Razali Abon said instead the people should make their best effort to preserve the unity and harmony in a multi-racial country like Malaysia.

    • BINTULU, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak National Party (Snap) will not be fielding its candidate in Bintulu in the parliamentary election, its deputy president, Ting Ling Kiew, said Friday.
    • He said the decision was made because the incumbent of the seat, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing of Barisan Nasional, had performed well and it would be better for him to continue serving the constituency.
    • "Tiong King Sing had been doing very well as the MP for Bintulu and we felt that we should allow him to continue for another term," Ting, who was the Bintulu MP from 1983 to 1987, told Bernama.

    • KUCHING: A total of 912,454 Sarawak voters will vote in the 31 parliamentary constituencies in the 2008 parliamentary election on Saturday, March 8.
    • This total is 7,663 more than the 904,791 total voters in the 2004 parliamentary election. 
    • Some of the voters' names have been deleted after the 2004 parliamentary election due to, among other reasons,  disqualification of the voters according to the rules and regulations of this country while others have changed their nationalities.

    • In a press statement, Tiong, who is also the Bintulu Member of Parliament and a Justice of the Peace, said he had received numerous calls from the villagers, expressing their gratitude to the police for a job well done in restoring the law and order in the villages.

    • BINTULU: Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato Seri Tiong King Sing was awarded by the Kayan community in the town's ouskirts of Tubau as their legendary hero that carried the title of Belawan Buring.
    • The award was presented to him on Sunday by longhouse chieftain Awai Anyie when Tiong, who is also a Justice of the Peace, was visiting the native community in conjunction with the current Christmas celebration.
    • In the presentation, Awai described their legendary hero as an immortal figure who was brave and would stand up for the people even in times of war.
