KUCHING: The Chairman of Barisan Nasional Back Benchers Club (BNBBC), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing yesterday threw a challenge to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reveal the name of BN Members of Parliament (MPs) who have crossed over to Pakatan Rakyat.

"Just reveal their names lah. Why so difficult for him to do that instead of lying everywhere he goes,” Tiong told Eastern Times when contacted at Quangzou, China over Anwar’s claim that 31 BN MPs had crossed over to join the Pakatan Rakyat.

He said there was no point for Anwar to insist that he had enough number of MPs to form the next Federal Government but failed to reveal their names.

“Why create so much hoohaa. If you have the mandate just announced it and do what is necessary,” he said.
Tiong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bintulu said there had been no defection from the BN to the opposition.

“If you don’t have the numbers, then please let Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to continue to lead the country and don’t try to jeopardize the economy. We are already facing a very challenging time,” said Tiong.
Yesterday afternoon, Anwar had claimed that more than 31 Barisan Nasional  MPs have agreed to cross over to Pakatan Rakyat.

He, however, refused to reveal the names of the 31 MPs.

Anwar told a press conference at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya last Tuesday that he would give the list of the names to the Prime Minister, when he meets him.

The Permatang Pauh MP also claimed that the transition to the new Government has been delayed a few days pending the meeting with Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition.

He said it was up to Abdullah to agree to the meeting and its date.

Anwar said that in a letter submitted to Abdullah last Monday, Pakatan had made four demands to ensure a smooth transition namely, that BN does not hinder or prevents the MPs from acting in accordance with their conscience, constitutional rights and independent judgement, that the BN government should not invoke the Internal Security Act to detain the MPs or any other current Pakatan MPs; that the BN government does not invoke emergency laws or police powers or suspends the Constitution or dissolves Parliament, and that the BN government shall not impose roadblocks or impede MPs from going to Parliament or any government institutions.

Anwar added that Pakatan Rakyat would have 40 additional parliamentary seats, with a strong 10-seat majority once the cross-over is done on September 16.

Currently the BN has 140 seats while Pakatan Rakyat has 82.

Meanwhile, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Information chief, Tian Chua told reporters at Padang Merdeka, Kuching that he would not disclose the names of the BN MPs who were crossing over as that would be announced by Anwar.

At the function, State PKR Chief, Dominique Ng said the Pakatan Rakyat in Sarawak currently did not involve the DAP, but added that: Anything can happen in politics”.

However, at the national level, DAP and PAS are partners of PKR.
