KUCHING: Sarawak once again proved itself as a strong bastion of the Barisan Nasional (BN) with the near clean sweep of the 31 parliamentary seats that it contested, winning five  unopposed and on polling day bagging the remaining except for Bandar Kuching.

The electorate in the state showed their loyalty and support to the state BN leadership, confident that more development will take place after the strong win.

Sarawak Progresive Democratic Party (SPDP) Youth Chief Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing won the biggest majority of 14, 965 votes for the Bintulu parliamentary seat while Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Chief Haji Fadillah Yusof won with a majority of 14, 397 votes, the second highest majority for the Petra Jaya parliamentary seat.

Haji Fadillah , when met at Demak Jaya early yesterday morning attributed his big majority to the hardwork of the party workers and the party leadership who has trusted him to contest and serve for the second term.

He said that PBB Deputy President Dato Sri Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg and Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman had provided him with valuable advice and guidance throughout the campaigning period.

“The big majority proved that the people here want to share BN vision to create a peaceful, stable and prosperous place where everyone regardless of their background can co-exist.

“With the strong mandate that the people have given me in this election I pledge to give my full commitment to serve to the best of my ability,” he said, adding that state assemblyman for Samariang Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali had also contributed toward the victory.

With the strong mandate and support from the people in Petra Jaya the Youth Chief said that the areas will be able to achieve a balanced development physically and in human capital.

The winning by the state BN also proves that the young blood injected by party leaders convince voters  in their ability to serve as their representative.

This is proven by the wins in Kota Samarahan parliamentary seat by Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib, Limbang by Hasbi Habibollah and  Bintulu by Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Petra Jaya parliamentary seat where the voters turn up was only 68.13%,  sawthe majority improved by more than 2, 000 votes compared to the previous parliamentary election and this shows that the people there supported the BN.

The most senior Bidayuh leader in the state cabinet Datuk Michael Manyin Jawong who is the Minister of Environment and Public Health and state assemblyman for Tebedu said  the win by the BN candidates in three Bidayuh majority constituencies of Mas Gading, Mambong and Serian show that the community stands firmly and truely behind the state BN and will continued to do so.

“We have campaigned hard and it is a relief  to learn that we have delivered all the Bidayuh majority constituencies to the BN. The winning is not just for the candidates alone, but also of the Bidayuh community because this will ensure that they will remain in the main stream of development,” he said.

“We need to contribute effectively as a small community and the community will benefit from the development projects brought by their support to the BN.”

Manyin said that the opposition from the Bidayuh community should be clear on the message being delivered by the Bidayuh community that they are with the government especially the intellectual and knowledgable.

His advice to the candidates who retained their seats in the 12th Sarawak Parliamentary Election to remain humble and continue to serve because the people are the most important consideration.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Dato Sri Dr James Masing commenting on the party candidates’ victories said that the party entered the election as a sickman but it managed to deliver all the seats it contested.PRS contested in six parliamentary seats.

Sarawak BN contested in 31 seats, five were won unopposed. The five seat were Tanjong Manis by new face Norah Abdul Rahman, Igan by Datuk Wahab Dollah, Kanowit by Aaron Ago Dagang, Selangau by Joseph Entulu Belaun and Kapit by Alexander Nanta Linggi.
