| Bintulu: The BN
candidate for Bintulu Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing last night expressed his
disappointment over the indifferent attitude of the shipping company after
two of their divers went missing while repairing their ship last Friday.
A family member of missing diver Chew King Jung, surnamed Hu, told Tiong yesterday that they were disatisfied with the company, as it had failed to keep them informed of the latest development of their rescue and search mission. "This is uncalled for, because at such a time, the family members were anxious and suffering the emotional stress." He called on the company to show care and comfort to the families. Professional divers-cum-mechanics Hii Teck Heng (42) and Chew King Jung (36) went missing while repairing oil-tanker Bunga Kelana 6 some five nautical miles offshore in Miri on Friday. They went offshore at 8am, but failed to return. “Nobody tells the family members on the progress of the search and why the trapped bodies cannot be extracted immediately”, Tiong heard of the complaint from the family members. Disappointed Tiong said the company, an established national maritime transportation and logistics firm, was an ISO-awarded establishment. "It should at least send representatives to help and ease the anxiety of the family members. Only through this, it will give the families the moral support they need." “This is what we, the public members and the victims’ families, cannot tolerate. Please care for the emotional and psychological sufferings of these family members.” When such inefficiency occurred, Tiong said, the search and rescue team involving the police and the others would be blamed also and became scapegoat of the inefficient operation. "The image of the government will also be indirectly dragged in because the concerned company is a subsidiary company of PETRONAS." Tiong was saddened that the search had been held up by the rough seas. He urged the family members to be patient while efforts were being made to find the missing pair. "Frogmen from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department and the marine police are battling the waves and the bodies of divers are believed to have been trapped at the suction outlet of the ship."
